Top 10 Tulamben Diving Sites

USAT Liberty Dive Wreck

Tulamben’s crown jewel is a 120-metre WWII cargo ship resting just metres from the beach. Its encrusted hull teems with bumphead parrotfish, pygmy seahorses, and vast schools of fish. One of the most accessible wreck dives in the world.

Kubu

South of Tulamben beach, Kubu is a macro lover’s paradise with dense staghorn coral gardens. Keep an eye out for parrotfish, barracuda cruising the blue, and reef sharks patrolling the deeper sections.

Monkey Reef

A vibrant tapestry of hard corals draped in colourful reef fish. Underwater photographers rave about the light, the diversity, and the sheer energy of this shallow reef, every angle is a shot worth taking.

Coral Garden

A blend of natural and restored coral reefs where active conservation work is visible beneath the surface. Clownfish nestle in swaying anemones, and lucky divers may spot blacktip reef sharks gliding through the shallows.

Drop Off

A dramatic coral wall that plunges into the deep blue. Built for experienced divers who love the thrill of depth. The entry from the beach is gentle, with juvenile fish in the shallows before the wall reveals its full grandeur.

Seraya Secrets

A black volcanic sand slope that hides extraordinary muck-diving treasures such as nudibranchs, ghost pipefish, frogfish, and more. By night, the site transforms into one of Tulamben’s most magical after-dark experiences.

Batu Ringgit

Just east of Tulamben, Batu Ringgit is a hidden gem offering pristine coral pinnacles and an exceptional variety of reef fish. Pygmy seahorses, scorpion fish, and octopus reward those who look closely at the rocks and rubble.

Melasti

A premier “muck diving” site famous for world-class macro photography. Its dark volcanic sand and rubble slopes host rare, camouflaged critters like nudibranchs, frogfish, ghost pipefish, and octopuses. With minimal current and easy shore access, it offers a gentle, slow-paced haven for spotting marine life.

Batu Niti

Another premier Tulamben muck diving site featuring a steep slope of dark volcanic sand. A dream for macro photographers, it is famous for rare, cryptic critters like harlequin shrimp, ornate ghost pipefish, frogfish, and diverse nudibranchs. The deeper drop-off also occasionally attracts passing reef sharks.

Gerombong

This dive site stands out on Tulamben’s northern fringe as a peaceful, uncrowded alternative to busier macro hotspots. Its black volcanic seabed acts as a nursery for unique marine life. Underwater explorers can escape the dive crowds while spotting mimicked behavior from rare octopuses, ghost pipefish, and exotic nudibranchs.

Top 5 Amed Diving Sites

The site features a shallow reef top that quickly gives way to a dramatic vertical wall plunging down into the deep blue

Jemeluk Bay/Wall

Shifting from sand to structure, Jemeluk Wall offers a stunning contrast with its dramatic vertical drop-off. Giant gorgonian sea fans, colorful sponges, and hard corals blanket the wall, attracting schools of reef fish, green sea turtles, and pygmy seahorses. It provides a breathtaking landscape perfect for reef lovers and drift divers.

Deep Blue

Deep Blue delivers an exhilarating Amed drift dive shaped by sweeping ocean currents and exceptional visibility. Its sweeping slope is dominated by colossal barrel sponges and thriving corals. This high-energy environment acts as a highway for pelagic marine life, regularly rewarding divers with sightings of reef sharks, barracudas, and majestic eagle rays. N.B. Accessible via a traditional Jukung Boat

Japanese Wreck

The Shipwreck offers an effortless, shallow-water exploration nestled in a calm Amed bay. Resting between 6 to 40 feet deep, this historic patrol boat is heavily encrusted with soft corals and gorgonians. It provides an ideal playground for snorkelers and macro photographers seeking seahorses, scorpionfish, and vibrant reef life.

Lipah Bay

The Bay serves as a calm, sunlit sanctuary in Amed, perfect for effortless shore diving and snorkeling. A thriving shallow coral garden slopes gently into a sandy bottom rich with macro life. The bay’s healthy reef shelters blue-spotted rays, green sea turtles, and schooling damselfish in highly relaxed conditions

Pyramids

Pyramids showcases a brilliant conservation success, featuring a series of hollow, concrete artificial structures deployed along an Amed sandy slope. Now completely blanketed in vibrant soft corals and sea fans, these structures serve as a bustling sanctuary for green sea turtles, pygmy seahorses, ghost pipefish, and schooling snapper.
